by Captain Brenna Young
Hello Captain Brenna Young here! This is my multifaceted career journey is as impressive as it is inspiring. Starting off in the hospitality and entertainment sectors with a restaurant, catering company, and DJ services, I not only catered to people’s culinary tastes but also to their need for engaging experiences. My entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there; I ventured into the maritime world, which intriguingly explains my title as 'Captain'. Operating a tour boat company has been an exhilarating addition, combining my love for adventure and my knack for customer service.
Transitioning from managing tangible experiences to navigating the complex currents of digital marketing with Young Designs, my current venture, illustrates my adaptability and foresight. At Young Designs, I am now steering small businesses towards success in the digital realm, helping them enhance their visibility and grow their customer base through strategic marketing solutions. It’s a testament with my leadership and commitment to supporting other entrepreneurs in their endeavors. My journey is a beacon for aspiring entrepreneurs, showing that with passion and perseverance, one can successfully captain not just a boat, but also a diverse portfolio of businesses.
As an entrepreneur, the mistakes I made were valuable learning experiences. My passion lies in nurturing small businesses, transforming the negligible into the noteworthy. Running a business necessitates engaging in social media marketing, developing an impressive website, and creating flyers and promotional materials. All these efforts can be quite costly, as I've personally experienced. Despite holding a bachelor's degree in business with a focus on marketing, I found myself unable to attend to my own tasks due to the daily demands of the business. So, what was my solution?
I set out to find companies that genuinely value my business and understand my budget constraints; I couldn't afford to spend a fortune on social media or a website. I quickly discovered how costly it can be to find what you need. So, I chose not to take any action, which is when I began to invest time in myself. I discovered a passion for creating advertisements, a talent I never knew I possessed until I started managing my own social media and learned to design a website without spending excessively.
Then I spoke with a friend who runs a tour boat business—oh boy, one of my competitors—but there's enough business for all of us. We discussed how I built my business; it was enjoyable to just talk about their business and share my thoughts on what they could do to expand their clientele.
After conducting research to find a company that could assist with their social media and website, they were stunned by the quote. Entrepreneurs like us lack the funding of larger companies, so often we resort to handling it ourselves. This is where my role becomes crucial; I have a formal education in marketing and have also self-taught various marketing strategies. I prefer to maintain control over my business, and while hiring someone for website services can yield great results, the support can sometimes be fleeting.
Yes, this happened to me, and I had to figure out how to reclaim my domain because I am the rightful owner. When trying to retrieve my website from the designer, they were no longer willing to assist, which was incredibly stressful. It took time, but eventually, I regained full control. Wanting to update my site but not knowing how, I once again set out to learn the software and managed to work it out. The moral of my story is that when I assist a business with a new website, we ensure that the business owner always retains control of their site. This empowers the owner to make any changes they wish, whether on their own or by hiring someone like me to help manage it. To be frank, if you're unsure about what you need for a website, it's best to hire an expert. There's so much to consider to get it right. If you choose Young Designs, I assure you that we will prioritize your business's best interests.
Hearing about my friends' struggles with social media and improving their website, I knew they needed help. That's when I decided to step in. I took over their social media management, enhancing their Instagram and Facebook presence. They were thrilled with the improvements, noticing an increase in followers, more engagement on their site, and a rise in shares of their content.
We collaborate as a team, brainstorming their desires for social media, their website needs, and jointly branding promotional items. They occasionally reach out for additional ideas or my perspective on various topics. It's gratifying to assist them; their success in achieving business objectives contributes to my own. They were my inaugural clients, instilling the confidence in me to embark on another venture with Captain Young Travels. I relish the opportunity to provide outdoor experiences for families and friends, and then pivot to aiding my clients in expanding their businesses. I couldn't envision a more fulfilling life than the one I currently lead.
